Depression treatment

Depression

Although you are likely to experience sadness when you are depressed, depression is different than sadness.

Depression often causes you to withdraw and feel disconnected from the world around you as everything that once gave your life meaning, hope or pleasure seems to fade away. All your thresholds tend to be lower. You’re more impatient, quicker to get angry or frustrated, quicker to break down, and it takes you longer to bounce back from everything. Depression can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems, making it difficult to function at work and at home, putting strain on relationships that used to elicit joy, and making even the smallest tasks feel impossible.

Depression is a serious medical illness and a leading cause of disability in Canada. TMS has been Health Canada approved as a safe and effective treatment for depression since 2002 and is used to successfully and safely treat depression worldwide.

If you or a loved one is suffering from depression, please talk to your health care provider and contact us to see if TMS is the right treatment for you.

It’s time to get back to the things you love.

Anxiety treatment

Anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health conditions, with up to 1 in 4 people suffering at some point in their life. Anxiety symptoms can be both psychological and physical. These will vary person to person but may include:

  • Restlessness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Feelings of dread
  • Feelings of being on edge
  • Problems sleeping
  • Irritability
  • Dizziness
  • Heart palpitations
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dry mouth

Medication and therapy do not always work. Research has shown that Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) can reduce the symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder, and help you get your life back.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) treatment

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

OCD is a mental health disorder characterized by unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) which lead to repetitive behavior (compulsions). OCD can severely affect one’s daily life and routines and cause distress or even functional impairment. Although pharmaceutical and psychological interventions are available, some OCD patients experience limited results from these and need more therapeutic options.

Unlike major depressive disorder (MDD), which tends to be an episodic illness, OCD is a chronic lifelong disorder that typically begins in adolescence.

Optimind uses Magventure TMS which is FDA approved in the treatment of OCD.

PTSD

PTSD

During and directly after experiencing a dangerous or scary event it is both natural and common for your body to respond with a “fight-or-flight” response. Increased heart rate and blood pressure, a heightened startle response, being tense, on edge or trembling, and issues with memory are all (but not limited to) fight-or-flight symptoms the body utilizes to help defend or avoid the danger. Typically, once the adverse event subsides and your body realizes it is no longer in danger these uncomfortable symptoms also go away.Individuals who suffer from PTSD, however, continue to experience symptoms such as feeling stressed or frightened despite the danger no longer persisting. When these symptoms last longer than a month and are severe enough to interfere with daily life this is considered PTSD. Research has shown TMS to be an effective treatment for PTSD, evidenced to reduce or eliminate PTSD symptoms.
